Biography

Emily Wood joins Brown's Office of General Counsel with more than 20 years of experience advising academic medical centers, research institutions, and their leaders on complex legal, regulatory, and strategic matters affecting the research enterprise. Her career has focused on partnering with research organizations to advance innovative research while addressing complex legal and regulatory challenges.

Most recently, Emily served as Senior Director and Associate General Counsel for Research at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where she was the principal legal advisor to CHOP's Research Institute, one of the nation's leading pediatric research organizations. Prior to CHOP, she served as Deputy General Counsel for Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She began her legal career at Ropes & Gray.

Before attending law school, Emily worked at the New York Academy of Medicine's Center for Urban Bioethics, where she supported pioneering research and educational initiatives focused on ethical issues affecting urban populations. That early experience sparked a lasting interest in the ethical, legal, and policy issues surrounding research. 

Emily looks forward to partnering with Brown's faculty, research administrators, and institutional leaders to support the University's broad and collaborative research enterprise.
