James M. Green
Biography
Jim has been a practicing attorney for thirty-five years. Since joining Brown’s OGC in 2006, he has been a higher education attorney and advisor providing advice on a broad range of issues affecting the University. He is a former manager and legal counsel at a public sector nonprofit. Jim has extensive law firm practice experience in management-side labor and employment law, education law, insurance law, and related litigation. He is a former law clerk to a state supreme court chief justice.
As Deputy General Counsel, Jim is responsible for advising the medical school in all health affairs matters, and advises the University on faculty affairs, governance issues, labor negotiations, and innovation.
Jim has an A.B. in history from Brown (Class of 1982) and a J.D. (with honors) from Boston College Law School. He is a member of the Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Massachusetts Bars, and a member of the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
